Spring has (almost) sprung up here in the Northeast, and that means one thing: muddy dog feet!
(Can you tell how many times I’ve had to wipe paws and Swiffer the floors in the last couple weeks? SO over it.)
Ok, bad joke. So spring means two things – muddy dog feet and Easter is just around the corner!
I always say I’m going to buy some new decorations (we have basically none) once they go on sale, but based on the fact that they’re always in stores in February and gone before I can take a deep breath, that has never happened in the 8+ years I’ve been meaning to do it.
But THIS year, I’m taking matters into my own hands and making some DIY Easter decorations, to finally have those cute little reminders of the end of snow season around my house and brighten up my days as I impatiently await gardening season!

10+ DIY Easter Decorations – For $10 or Less!
Saving money is a huge deal in our house since we’re in the habit of working off on one income for the past few years.
And since it’s super important to me to try to have my house feel festive without spending much (or any) money if possible, I felt like it was absolutely critical to gather up some ideas for how to do just that, either with things I already have at home, or by only spending a few bucks per decoration!
*Just a note: I know I’ve got a strange but functional assortment of odds and ends around my house that would let me put these ideas together without having to buy every single piece. I’m making the assumption that you, too, have a few things you could repurpose to make these crafts, it just might take a little bit of creative thinking on your part. It’s a good skill to have anyway, if you’re budget-conscious, so get thinking! ๐
1. Carrot Napkin Utensils
Found on Smart School House
We’ll start off with this super adorable DIY, in case you find yourself hosting an Easter brunch and that’s why you’re scurrying to whip up some decorations super quick! It’s functional, it’s super cute, and it’s double-duty awesome when you consider that this decoration “puts itself away” when the party is over because all you have to pick up is the empty pot left behind!
Because party supplies and colored cutlery tend to be a bit pricey, this one will likely push you a little over budget if you’re actually making the as-pictured decoration.
Frugal tips: If you’re just using this idea as a “basket of carrots” decoration, get creative!
- Repurpose a basket that’s already in your house,
- Give your kids some white paper and orange crayons to replace the napkins
- Glue some “fancy” green paper Easter grass on the top for the fluff!
- If you’re looking to make the decoration as-pictured it’ll be at or just above the $10 budget, but you might want to use these orange napkins ($4), the green paper Easter grass linked above ($5), and grab some affordable green cutlery in-store from Dollar Tree ($1 for 48-ct!)
2. DIY Recycled Easter Bunny Vases
Found on Weekend Craft
Seriously how cute is that? There are about a million different ways you could paint these jars — patterns, an actual bunny outline, multi-colored, etc!
Frugal tips: None! You’re already getting to enjoy eating whatever food used to be in the jar before you made this craft, so your net cost for crafting supplies should be $0!
- If you’re somehow entirely out of glass jars to use, you’ll want to get them at Dollar Tree for the best price per jar!
3. Layered Candy-Filled Vase
Found on Creative Juice
What says Easter (and spring) more than jellybeans and flowers? This is seriously the simplest DIY ever, I’m kicking myself for never having thought of it before!
Frugal tips: Unless you’re shopping super duper candy sales, just let this one be a festive, rainbow-colored jellybean party, so you don’t need to spend extra money on special seasonal candy colors!
- You can grab a nice, sturdy square vase from Amazon for about $9.
4. Lemon Drop & Peeps Tulip Vase
Found on The Laws of My Life
If you ask me, this is the only acceptable use for Peeps. Blech.
That said, this is a great Easter DIY that is both adorable and super affordable! (And knowing how long Peeps seem to last, you might not even need to remake this each year? Kidding…mostly.)
Frugal tips: While the single-color theme in the picture is super adorable, think outside the box to save money!
- Use pastel mini-marshmallows alone or with any color of Peep for the same fun effect!
- Consider using just one vase (instead of the two needed per the original decoration) and fill with aqua beads instead. They can be repurposed for indoor-friendly water sensory play for toddlers and preschoolers after Easter is over!
5. Yarn-Wrapped Carrots
Found on Positively Splendid
Another craft so easy a kid could do it!
What I love about this one is how easy it is to make a bunch of different sizes of carrots to suit your decorating needs!
Frugal tips: Replace the styrofoam core from the tutorial for a shaped-and-taped paper towel tube to keep costs down!
- You can grab some good but cheap orange yarn from Amazon!
- Try mixing things up by using yarn with fun textures!
6. DIY Easter Egg String Lights
Found on Creative Ramblings
For those of us who are just awful at getting holiday decorations put away in a timely manner, so we find ways to incorporate them into the next holiday…and the next…and the next… well, this one is for us!!!
This is another one of those “I can’t believe I didn’t think of this on my own” DIYs — with a drill and a few minutes you’re good to go! This would be a GREAT way to decorate a tree with white lights for Christmas when the weather is alright after Thanksgiving but not need to take the lights down until it’s warmer in spring! Or just call it “multi-colored” for Christmas…
Frugal tips: This would be the ideal craft to put together just AFTER Easter season at the stores is over, so you can snag a ton of those plastic eggs for dirt cheap!
- Here’s a great bulk set of plastic Easter eggs for just barely over the $10 budget, but it’s definitely enough for some serious decorating!
7. 2×4 Bunny Blocks
Found on I Should Be Mopping The Floor
These little babies take just a bit more work than the rest on the list so far, but they’re so cute, durable, and worth it!
Frugal tips: I’m assuming that you’re like us with random assorted scraps of lumber in your garage. Even if the tutorial calls for 2x4s, you can certainly use a lot of other options for your block base piece!
- Get the kids involved! Let them paint the blocks and paint a bunny free-hand. It’ll give you a few minutes to do something else while they’re busy, and it’ll make a sweet keepsake decoration for years.
- Save the time of the 2-step painting to make colored bunnies, and give your blocks an Alice In Wonderland sort of feel with these fun and adorable bunny stickers!
8. Rustic Wood Bunny Art
Found on Diva of DIY
These might be the most fun yet, for how creative you can get with customizing them!
Frugal tips: If you don’t have scrap lumber around that you can use for this project, keep an eye out for free pallets that you can get from local stores or on the free section of Craigslist.
- Be sure to try to use paints and add-ons you already have around the house! Even an old fluffy scrunchy coated with spray paint of your choice could make for a nice little tail!
- If you’re not very good at freehand drawing/painting a bunny, there are a ton of bunny-shaped stencil options on Amazon!
9. DIY Mini Easter Bunny Pots
Found on Southern In Law
You guys, I squealed when I came across this one. I’m not kidding.
It’s a little more time-consuming, and I wouldn’t want to run a hot glue gun with very little kids around, but this would be a perfect craft for a “moms night out” get-together with friends!
Frugal tips: If you’re planning to make a larger version than shown here (2-inch pot), consider using real plants instead of fake to save a few dollars.
- Round up 4-8 girlfriends to make this craft together and split this bulk set of pots – then it’ll only be about $1-2 for your cost on the pot!
- Use either these 1-inch pom poms for the bunny butts or simply a cotton ball for way cheaper! Try cutting off the tip of a Q-tip for a super cost-effective tail!
- Scoop up some dirt from the yard and toss in a few wildflower seeds to make this a unique piece of living decor! Just make sure the bunny pom-pom is glued to the pot and not touching the dirt so it won’t damp and rot, and don’t forget to water it!
10. Easter Egg Wreath
Found on Wine And Glue
How fun is this? This is one that I’m saving to make with my kids – I really think they’re going to enjoy the part where they pop the balloons the best! ๐
Frugal tips: The tutorial uses embroidery floss but that can get pricey if you’re hoping to use multiple colors. Try to find alternatives for it unless you have a good stash, otherwise only use 2-3 colors max!
- Try experimenting with thicker thread/thin yarn instead of embroidery floss. (Buy the white spool instead, and follow this tutorial to dye the yarn yourself!)
11. Rustic Wooden Bunny
Found on Mom Unleashed
I LOVE this one! I think it’s a combination of adorable, natural materials, and made in minutes that makes me itching to get this one put together! Leave it rustic with just a coat of sealant, paint it, modify it to add a fluffy tail – you do you, and make it your own!
Frugal tips: This one is a total freebie for our house since we have a stack of firewood and plenty of trees in the woods dropping branches of all sizes to choose from!
- If you literally have no trees to choose from, awkward though it may seem you CAN find “free firewood” on your local Craigslist. There is almost always someone with a tree that fell down and needs clearing!
- If you have no access to natural wood or the tools to create this, check your local craft stores which often sell pre-cut, natural wood slices (with the bark on the edges). You’ll likely go well over the $10 budget by that method even with sales and coupons, but that’s a choice for you to make!
12. Carrot Door Decoration
Found on Love The Tompkins
You’ve got to know by now that I’m all about pretty wreaths and floral things! I’m a total sucker for a gorgeous wreath, always! This one might take the cake – it’s stunning, Easter-y but still just says “spring,” and it’s so easy you could get it made in an afternoon!
Frugal tips: While the tulips she used are obviously an excellent fit for this decoration, don’t limit yourself! Even just making it slightly smaller than what she made will allow for cost savings!
- While you’ll definitely be able to find more “life-like” florals at a craft store, you’ll be paying a much higher price for it. If you’re just hoping to get a decoration put together (and you can always re-make this when your budget increases in the future!), try just using the most cost-effective florals that you can. Try to mix it up with different types of orange flower, or even using a different color completely (carrots really do exist in more colors than just orange)!
- These orange tulips on Amazon would get the job done! Reuse the leaves as the greenery at the top, and some garden twine (that you either had or can reuse in your garden this summer) to tie it all together if you’re being extra budget-conscious!
13. DIY Wooden Easter Eggs
Found on Create & Babble
I love how easy it is to customize these eggs to fit your own style!
Frugal tips: If you don’t have scrap wood hanging around your garage, try making your own 3D eggs by using this DIY cereal box letters tutorial, or simply gluing multiple identical layers together. Just be sure to use the cereal box INSIDE OUT so it’s a brown exterior to avoid the colors showing through!
- Regardless of what material your base is, try using an old (floral or patterned) shirt as your covering/patterned material (if you used a cereal box, you’ll be able to away with skipping the decoupage step, if you want to)! Including the buttons and pocket could be a fun way to turn this craft into an “Easter basket” for your child’s door, with the pocket to leave a little Easter surprise!
- You could use extra-wide, 24″ white art paper (to accommodate almost any size egg base) and let your kids paint their own patterns for the eggs! Let them make a mix of watercolor and acrylic paintings for you, to include some fun textures with your decorations!
- This Modge Podge sealer spray is a great way to quickly protect your finished product!
14. Fabric Bunny Silhouettes
Found on Vintage Romance Style
The simplicity of this DIY is almost unparalleled! Trace a bunny outline/stencil on fabric, cut, sew, stuff, done! Adding a cotton ball tail would be cute too! I love the idea of making some small versions of these as Easter basket gifts for my kids or make large, wider bunnies for some quick and festive throw pillows!
Frugal tips: You probably can guess this tip — use an old shirt that you were going to donate anyway!
- Just like with the wood bunny sign craft above, you might want to check out the bunny-shaped stencil options on Amazon!
15. Carrot Box
Found on Creative Tryals
A craft that doubles as either a simple decoration or could be used as a little fillable candy box for an Easter basket or party favor!
Frugal tips: Try using empty cereal boxes for this one, simply give the colored side a quick coat of spray paint or glue cardstock over the top of it to make them decorated to your liking!
- The green paper Easter grass would make a fun and funky topper, or you could simply use some plain green construction paper (< $2)to cut out your own tops!
16. Jelly Bean Tree
Found on Crafty Sisters
Use the full rainbow of colors for a happy spring decoration, or use a single color to make it a year-round decoration!
Frugal tips: Don’t buy craft branches at the store, when you can probably find perfectly good ones around your own yard or neighborhood! Try searching at the local park if you have to!
17. Egg Garland
Found on Kelly Elko
This would be a great one to have the kids work on so that you can free up some time to make the rest of the crafts on this list! I love how versatile this decoration is – for the fireplace mantle, strung in a tree outside, or hung around your front door for a festive touch!
Frugal tips: Another one of those stock-up-after-Easter sort of crafts, to get great deal on plastic eggs!
- You might want the bulk set of plastic Easter eggs for this one (just over $10)!
Bonus:
Easter Egg Cookie Dough Truffles
Found on Wine And Glue
Because let’s face it – who doesn’t love some cookie dough? Plus these little cuties are an Easter decoration all by themselves (for a few minutes, at least)!
Either get a batch ready for your crafting party with your girlfriends or save it for your Lent-is-finally-over treat!
